The Utah Wild Sheep Foundation has now installed more than seven Ranchbot monitoring systems across key guzzler sites, with three additional units scheduled for deployment in the coming weeks. We’re still in the early stages of integrating this technology, and there’s plenty of work ahead, but the promise is already clear. Ranchbots give us real-time insight into water levels and guzzler functionality, reducing the guesswork and travel time traditionally required for monitoring. As we continue expanding the network, these units will become a valuable tool in keeping our guzzlers reliable, responsive, and ready to support Utah’s wild sheep.

How the Ranchbot Water Level Monitor works and key features:

  • The Ranchbot Water Level Monitor is designed for remote water‐level sensing in tanks, troughs or similar water reservoirs.
  • It uses satellite / cellular connectivity to transmit water‐level data from remote locations to a cloud platform, enabling near-real-time alerts to text or email when water levels change unexpectedly.
  • The monitoring platform (often referred to as “MyRanchbot”) allows users to view current water levels, historical trends, and set minimum/maximum thresholds that trigger alerts.
  • The system is rugged and designed for remote conditions (which aligns well with guzzler sites in rugged terrain). The Ranchbot brand emphasizes durability, remote access, and minimizing the labor of physical checks.

Why this fits the Foundation’s needs:

  • Because the Utah Wild Sheep Foundation operates monitoring at guzzler sites which may be remote and difficult to access quickly, the reduction in travel and manual inspection is a major benefit.
  • The alert capability means we’ll know immediately if a guzzler’s water level drops below a target enabling a faster response to ensure water is available for wild sheep.
  • The historical trend data will help in proactive management—seeing patterns of depletion, refill, use rates, and possibly identifying problems such as leaks before they become serious.
